Free Groceries!

Okay, this is not a sponsored post or anything, I seriously just want to tell you about how cool the Walmart Savings Catcher app is, and how you can get free groceries!

I always shop for groceries at Walmart because I’m cheap frugal, and whatever.  I’ve never bought into all that organic marketing stuff–another conversation for another day.  Some people won´t shop there because the customer service is nonexistant terrible, but to me, it´s worth the money I save to put up with the environment there.  Anway, I digress.  This app…

The way it works is, you download the Walmart app, make a free account. Then, whenever you shop at Walmart, you open the app and scan the barcode printed on your receipt.  That´s it!  If any grocery store nearby had any items that you bought listed cheaper, you get the difference in price refunded back to you.  They load the money on a gift card for you.

When you submit a receipt, it says it’s searching all the ads of all the grocery stores within your area for lower prices. I was definitely skeptical at first, thinking I’d scan the barcode and boop! It would immediately tell me Walmart has the lowest prices. But no! It takes 3-5 days to get your results because it really is looking through all the advertised prices of grocery stores nearby.

If you´re like me, and try to find the best deal on the stuff you buy regularly, this bad boy will save you a lot of time.  Doesn´t matter who has the best prices.  This takes their price-match guarantee to a whole new level.

I usually forget about it after I submit a receipt, and then, midweek, I get a happy popup in my notification bar on my phone.  Either: you got the best deal, or cheaper prices were found!  Either way it´s good news!  I’ve gotten money back almost every time–even if it’s only a few cents here and there, it adds up!

Just last week I cashed in $15.03 (I think I last cashed out in January), and this covered more than half of my groceries for the week.  Keep in mind, I’ve only been shopping for me, so I haven´t been buying a lot of groceries, but the more items on your receipt, the more opportunity you have to get money back!

You can let the money accumulate in the app as long as you´d like.  Whenever you’re ready, you can cash your money out as a gift card on your phone, and use it to pay for your next purchase. I love it.

You know, I feel like we´ve become friends, because every time I´m in Walmart, waiting at the checkout line, I think about how I have to tell you guys about how cool this is.  Just thought y´all might like to give it a try. 🙂
